When I was about 4 years old and living in Chechnya I was with my family who were helping to set up a booth at a festival and I noticed a strange metal disc and a lump in the ground near a part of a field that was going to be used as a parking lot later in the day. Turns out it was a leftover landmine set up by terrorists. If I hadn't been so interested in shiny things someone would have walked on that or parked their car on it. Good thing my hand was held or that would have been me.
Strange how I remember this. I think I might of know what a landmine was at the time so when they said the word I got very frightened. Traumatized even.

I was about 14. There were some friends at my grandparents pool. One of my friends could not swim, and we all knew that. She stepped just a little too close on the deep end and slipped in. Because she was so frightened, she could not focus on grabbing the side. Without hesitating I jumped in behind her and pulled her to the shallow end. Everyone was greatful, but we did not cause a big scene.

I was saved from drowning once by my father when I fell off a pier fishing with him at 5 years old. Neither of us knew how to swim, but he jumped in to pull me out, risking his own life to do so. Does he see that as saving my life or is that just something dads do regardless if it has to do with saving life or not?
All I remember is falling in and waking up to the sight of a lady who looked EXACTLY like Aunt Jemima (its the truth) because this lady had given me CPR to bring me back. Never thought about it until years later, but the very next Saturday morning was spent in swimming class rather than fishing.
I don't know if I've saved someone else, but then again, I've never been in a position where I saved someone in a literal sense as in pulling them back from the literal, physical brink like happened to me.
For all I know, when I stepped between my friends and a stranger that was having an argument with them outside a bar, I may have saved the dude's life through my actions - my friends backed off and let me speak to the guy. I just told him that everyone was probably drinking too much and that its probably best for everyone involved to just walk away, loud enough to my friends could also hear me. (really I was talking to them more than the guy)
I don't know beyond saying I saved the guy a beating he didn't deserve and that everyone involved was drunk at the time.
I also thought about the fact that as a 5'6" nothing lbs. guy, I've stolen peoples key's from their jackets then had to deal with the same drunk off their *** buddies at 6'0" + and 200 lbs.+ to prevent them from drunk driving. Didn't think about that during the original post, but it never bothered me - can handle myself so I didn't really think about the effort involved - its always been mental effort rather than physical.
Its funny, as a little dude, the big dudes usually back down when I stand up to them without fear - I guess that's helped me to pull off things like stealing people's keys to prevent drunk driving and fights and what not. Honestly, I don't really understand why that's the case, but its true.
Seems like fear is a big factor - my roommate and another friend were picking up some beer at a liquor store and someone had some kind of episode. One the first is a pretty much unphazable marine, the other is an emt trained medic (didn't go into it after training, just had the training and went in a different direction) They were the only ones to actually respond to what was happening. Apparently, most people froze and as the emt trained person was dealing with the person in trouble, the marine was doing what the emt told him to do and yelling "call 911....." "HEY! SNAP OUT OF IT! CALL 911 NOW!"
I guess its just a matter of how you react to whats thrown at you, everyone has a different reaction. I've been able to react and I've frozen up. You just can't tell until it actually happens to you.

Yes,there was a guy walking near me on a hiking trail. I just saw the tail end of a rattle snake slither from the trail into the tall weeds right next to the trail about 5 to 7 steps in front of us. I was going to pass the guy and he was going to step into the weeds to get out of my way. I quickly pulled him back onto the trail and to the opposite side. He was about to step on the rattle snake. I could still see the rattler in the weeds but the guy didn't see him at all. I told him not to step in that area that there was a rattle snake right there and then he finally saw it. Thankfully, the snake couldn't detect either one of us. Very scarry.

I don't think he would have died but I once stopped my little brother from bleeding profusely from wounds on his hands and arms. The ambulance had to come because of how much blood he lost.
He broke through our back window when the door was locked...he saw it on TV....LOL
That's all I got.

yes. When i was 8 i went to go play at my friend's house and his little sister put a small styrofoam toy in her mouth and started choking. I, stupidly, put my finger down her throat and pulled it out. I guess i saved her from choking
