The reason for the headache is dehydration, the reason it is so bad is that the body gets a high from all the sugar in the drink and coming down from that high is what makes the body worse. (it is called the sugar crash). When the dehydration sets in too .. well you need to get some sleep- that's why you are tired out but the alcohol sets you into tired but doesn't allow the body to get RESTFUL sleep.

And beer goggles are especially good at allowing ugly folk like me to get some sexual action (My wife sees to that bit for me though!)

Hey, most of these guys are right. The reason you get a headache is because of dehydration (alcohol, caffeine and smoking is a diretic so makes you wee more). The reason you get a washing machine belly is because your body can not metabolise the toxins and convert alcohol into waste products. This is why it is called intoxication. Wikipedia is a good site for looking this up and for hangover cures. Not quite sure if they work though.

Dehydration as alcohol is a diuretic (makes you pee) and alcohol on excess beaks down into two different aldehydes (nasty chemicals that give you a headache). Drink a pint of water before you go to bed (assuming you aren't too p*ssed to remember) and the hair of the dog, best found in a Bloody Mary will convert the nasty chemicals back into alcohol so your body can cope the next day, and the sugar and vitamin C in the tomato juice help your body start to repair itself. Fry ups for breakfast will help if you can stomach it.

Slightly boring and not very funny answer I know, but better hungover than waking up with your arm stuck under a munter and suffering that worst of blokes dilemmas "Wait for her to wake up or cut my arm off and leave now?"

It is dehydration combined with the fact that your body does not get but about 10-15 minutes of actual quality sleep for every hour your body actually sleeps. If you can deal with it-2 ASPIRIN with a glass of MILK BEFORE you go to sleep will ease the morning after symptoms somewhat. Not overdoing it is the best way to avoid a hangover. I know you not stupid, but it is so true. For the humor part-anxiety about that person you don't know in the bed next to you does not help your quality of sleep either.

Not humorous, but alcohol dehydrates your body. So the water in your head is drained, and your head rubs up against the skull more, causing a headache.
