its called urban flight...alot of times it is because as people get a bit older and may start a family the want to move where the can have "the american dream" or when particular cities have a giant increase in cost of living and crime people want out...also the space you have in the city is much less then the space you can have in the suburbs (rent on a loft in the city can get you a 2 bedroom apartment in the suburbs)

Personally, I don't like crowds of people around me. I like to have my space. I don't like living in apartments where I can here whats going on in the adjoining apartments. I don't like even having a yard so small that I can hear my neighbors arguing. No, I like my space. And there is generally less crime in areas where there are fewer people.

cities are becomming more crowded as the population increases. There is also less crime and violence outside of big cities.

Actually- I thought that this trend was reversing, and we are now in a trend where a higher percent of the population is returning to urban areas.

But, apparently because we enjoy long commutes in our automobiles and burning of fossile fuels.

Because the dense populations of cities attract and breed filth and crime.
