for the first time in 28 years we are blowing it on something just for us....it will help us pay for a cruise (first time for that as well)....in the past I have always caught up on bills, put it into home improvement, or spent it on the kids.

I never have a refund because I adjust my W 4 to reflect the amount of dependants necessary to ensure that I don't pay more than required.
I used to get almost $2200 back a year, and I realized that I was 'loaning' my government that money, tax free, and that I could be using it instead.
Think about it. That's over $180 a month that I'm able to have now, not having to wait. If I choose to save it, that's another almost $200 a year in interest I'm getting.
It's crazy to give the $$$ to the government needlessly.

Your lucky to have a job! Many of do not and want to work for progressive incomes! The job market is NOT as rosy as the Media hypes it to be! I have worked for over 38 years on paper and only been able to afford 2 or 3 real vacations and they were nothing i would dream about!!! But i feel your happiness & i am sure its well deserved have fun for once!!!
