You don't need palns. you can buy a timer off the shelf that plugs into the socket and then you plug the pump into the timer. I have one of those on my pool pump and it works no problem! Check out your loca hardware/electrical stores in your area!

You would need to have it UL approved as if it caused a fire your home insurance would not cover you.
