I read today that Michael Devlin (the guy who kidnapped those little boys in Missouri) plead not guilty. What on earth would even make him think he was not guilty of anything???? How could he not be guilty?????

Unfortunately, it goes back to the old saying "innocent until proven guilty." If he pleads guilty, he's done with no chance; if he pleads innocent, then there's room for errors (police, evidence, etc). And you could have one or more jurors that feel bad for him and his sad upbringing that will regard this as justification and let him walk with a lesser punishment. Either way, he was in the wrong because he manipulated that young boy. Kids are like sponges and can be brought up to love, hate, be strong or full of fear. I just hope the best for Shawn and his family.

If Michael Devlin did no longer have a sturdy functioning courting at the same time with his relations, then it truly is fullyyt plausible that that they had no idea what he became doing. Or if Devlin did not enable everyone to visit his house and easily went to visit his kin, this can account for the failure of his relations to word some thing amiss. some households are only no longer close. yet there is extra to it than that. On some aspect Michael Devlin had to appeal to close that what he became doing became incorrect. So, hiding it by no longer allowing visitors to his house, by having 2 jobs that can make it puzzling to seize him at homestead, by happening my own to visit kin with threats to the youngster to save him in line, and sendng the boy out on the line for those uncommon activities even as kin insisted on travelling were likely the order of the day. So no, i do no longer have self assurance that the relations is overlaying up. Deep down interior, Michael Devlin became a stranger even to his own relations.

It's not that he really believes he's not guilty...It's just how criminals plead when they're headed to trial.

To plead guilty would mean that there would be no trial by jury, as he would be sentenced right away.

He's just trying to keep himself out of jail.

"Innocent until proven guilty", that's the way the system works. Don't worry, I'm sure he'll be convicted when it goes to trial. That's the way the system works, too. He'll get what he deserves!

90% of cases get a not guilty plea, this just means they are trying to fight the charges.
