I'm an old fogey and would find it useful if I knew the age of the questioner. Then I could adjust my answer to suit the enquirer and not sound like a lecturer or someone who acts as though kids are dumb and don't need to know stuff.

I don't think so, because then people would be meaner to the people that ask dumb questions that everyone knows. And it would make it so not as many people would want to ask questions because it's hard enough even if your question is something you really just don't know.

I might be cynical but I think a lot of people would lie about their age. Children would say they are 18 to 21, and those of us old folks, esp. women, if we had to give an age (which I really don't want to!) would be really tempted to pick in the 20's so I don't think it would work. Everyone on Yahoo Answers would be 21!

I think the best idea is to just try to write as if you are answering a 20 year old, unless they mention grandchildren or something. I also think you should try not to sound like a lecturer or the person is dumb whether they are 10 or 100 so knowing their age isn't really necessary. Plus I can usually tell anyway as they will ask a question about their Mom or Dad or school. Not many of us old fogeys will do that!

It could be! But are you dumber in old age or are you stupider in the youthful age? There are many smart kids out there who grow up to be smarter adults.

i agree with the first guy that answered but i also understand where you are coming from so that we all can try to answer a questione more age appropriate... but like he said there are pediphiles . but then again we can choose to have our email on or off...good question :)

Considering the fact that there are too many pediphiles loose on the internet - I don't think it should be required.
