you need to be scouted, or you can be a walk on and go to a specifics schools tryouts, if you get accepted to the school.

Some players go straight from high school to professional ball (in a major league team's minor league system).

However, you are more likely to get a shot at the majors if you play college ball.

If you are really good, then you should get a scholarship and you will want to play for a college in a state where the weather is warm. You get to play a lot more games that way.

If you are a pretty good player, without a scholarship, go to a community college, or small college near you. There are scouts everywhere.

It's not easy to make the major leagues. Work on fundamentals, stay in shape and practice, practice, practice.

Good Luck

First step is playing ball in high school, then being one fo the top players in your area or state. Then you can get a scholarship, walk-on or have a roster spot but no help financially. College baseball teams are limited to 11.7 scholarships, which they have to divide through 30 players. If you get into a college program and you become an elite player, then you might get drafted. If you get drafted then you have to play your way through the minor league system of the big league team you are playing for. If you are good enough and got drafted high enough then you might have a shot at the Major Leagues.

If you're not being recruiter, most will have a try out. Call the college you are planning on attending and ask. Or find a junior college and go there for two years and do your best and see if you get scouted that way.
You DO NOT need a scholarship. If you're good enough, they will want you to play and maybe they'll offer you a partial schorlarship. But your best bet is to try the smaller colleges.

Really waht you need to do is get scouted. Putting up good numbers in high school will catch scouts eyes. The scouts will give you a good idea if you will be able to play college ball or go to the draft. It takes a real special player to get drafted out of high school though. Don't be discouraged if you don't go to a high profile college too. Albert Pujols went to a Junior College and look at him today.

You do not need to play college ball to make it to MLB. What you need more than anything is for a scout to notice your talent. Unfortunately you have virtually no way to make this happen besides your ability to play well. If you have enough ability that your chances of being a MLB player were 1% chance, the scouts will find you.

You don't have to go to college, nor do you have to have a scholarship to play college ball. It does help though. You can be a walkon, or play a year or two at a smaller college and transfer to a larger school.

You don't need to play college ball to get to the majors. If you're really good you can get to the majors faster if you don't take that route.

Over 80% of the All Star players this year didn't go to college. They were too smart and too talented to bother with college.

You'd probably have to be on a scout's list of players they are considering giving scholarships.

If you aren't, then use that 4.5 GPA to get into college and try to walk-on.
