I would definately be getting a second opinion and try to avoid that midwife! I think she is in the wrong profession - no people skills, no common sense, no right to treat you like that!
I am 27wks pregnant and have put on about 11pounds - i put that 11pounds on by week 20 and haven't gained anything since and my midwife is fine with it - as long as i'm eating a fairly balanced diet she told me weight gain does not matter!!
As to weighing the baby - that is a guesstimate at best. How often are doctors/midwives wrong? They are only guessing, my friend was told her baby was about 6pounds and she turned out to be 9.5!! How is that for getting it wrong?
Get a second opinion and try not to stress to much - this midwife sounds like an idiot and you don't need the stress. I'm sure it will all be fine.

Go to a real doctor. My mom had morning sickness so bad she only gained 1 pound the entire pregnancy and I came out weighing 6lbs 7oz. She's trained to help deliver a baby, she's not trained to diagnose problems that you are referring to. If there were a real problem, she would want to see you sooner than 2 weeks. Go tomorrow to an ob/gyn and tell them everything she said and get a professional opinion. I have nothing against midwives for a normal pregnancy but if she's talking about the placenta not growing then it's not something you want to trust a midwife with.

I think that midwife is a ninny! Why why why would she say something like that and then put you off for 2 weeks?
I put no faith in someone that ignorant. Stop worrying about it tonight. I highly doubt anything is wrong with your baby. (maybe midwife is PMS and needed to be mean)
@ 35 weeks, a 4# baby is small but fine, and considering that you were only 5 - 9 at birth and only 100 # regularly, then you are probably going to have a small baby.
Relax, sit back and find a new mid-wife.

At this point you should see an OB not a midwife. They are educated in childbirth, and basic prenatal care for the mom, not diagnosing the baby. A good midwife would have referred you already to an OB to have the baby checked out. It is a possibility that your baby has a problem. It is more likely that you have a wider pelvis, or the baby is just small.

My daughter fluctuated my whole pregnancy at 25 wks she measured 28, at 32 wks she measured 29. My OBGYN said that babies fluctuate in growth they have spurts they get stumped. My daughter was healthy and I only gained 20 for my whole pregnancy. Everybodys body is different they can also mismeasure. Get your second opinion for your own sanity but if she is basing it just on a couple of measurements and not ultrasound growth than it can give room for error. Don't worry your a far enough along that if you do have it the baby won't suffer from it. I had a friend who had it and her baby was just small at birth, and now she is above average in height.

wow the mid wife really had no right saying all the mean stuff to you.
I am 21 weeks and have lost 45 lbs and no one ever beat up on me like that. HOw rude she is.
Don't be to worried becuase with my son He was 9lbs 15ozs and the midwife told me that he felt like he was 5 lbs. I only meassured 36 weeks at 40 weeks with him.
Tell the midwife to send you for a scan to make sure becuase you are concered.
I think everything is going to be ok but I am no Dr or midwife but went through the same thing.

What bothers me the most is the fact that if its something so seemingly horrible and she wants to wait two weeks? Hun, you've only got 5 weeks to go ?!? the baby could decide to be born in two weeks?!? I'd definitely get a second opinion right away. 25 pounds is average and they say is good. I adore my doctor, he's awesome, always asks me if there is anything that I want to discuss and then take me seriously even if my concerns are normal silly pregnancy matters. I hate women doctors or nurse practitioners...to me they never follow through in a timely manner, listen to YOUR problems and tend to push aside or not take seriously possible issues, yet they're always willing to ***** about the little unimportant stuff.

I would get a second opinion, preferably from an OB. However, if small babies run in your family, then it's possible that everything is just fine. Wait until you talk to another medical professional before you start losing sleep over this. If she is really thinking this is a serious issue, she ought to be ordering an ultrasound for tomorrow.

dont pay too much attention to it!! my cousin was 98 lbs when she got pregnant, and only gained about 25 lbs. she delivered at 38 weeks, and was told the same thing by her doctor. the baby was 5lbs 9oz, and perfectly healthy! now her lil girl is a chunky, and very active 9 month old!! i on the other hand weighed 150 when i got pregnant, and gained almost 60lbs, and my boy weighed 6lbs 13 oz at 35weeks, but measured 33 weeks. so dont go too much by how they measure you! if u feel your baby moving, and YOU dont feel anything is wrong, then go by your feeling!! us women have that sense of things being wrong anyway!!
good luck, and congrats!

Yep, I've saw a crazy midwife a few times and have decided that I will not see her again. I was suppose to be with the doctor anyway and only accepted her because he wasn't available at my first visit but after her jumping to negative conclusions two times in a row I have decided that I will not see her again.
How can that midwife predict that just by feeling your stomach, without tests? Does she claim to be psychic too?
Honestly, I prefer male OB doctors.
