What can we do about people using violence to control others.?

What can we do to not become violent too, and to not become victims either.....sometimes it is violence to others, and sometimes you can't run.

Set yourself as a good example for others to emulate. Beyond that violence is part of human nature and frequently we are powerless to do anything.
