A lot of people like to say that they are living solely for the purpose of an afterlife. However, do you ever get the impression that living humans are implicitly serving one of this planet's interior motives?

There are many of us who do not believe in afterlife or any of the supernatural. I would say, then, that human legacy is currently completely negative given the penalties humans have inflicted on our own planet, including overhunting, deforesting, and of course pollution (I know I sound like a tree-hugger).

The purpose of this life or our human legacy is to love and learn the meaning of love. The afterlife doesn't matter.

I would say the human legacy is to be remembered by the next generation as having worked to create said generation. Perhaps 'the afterlife' IS being remembered by the living and thus to live eternally depends on the memory OF you living eternally.

King Tut did a good job. Christ did a good job, as did Moses. On the other hand, so did Hitler.

If the next generation forgets the current one, or disregards or ignores, there is no legacy.

If it does remember and appreciates where it came from, our generation has a legacy.

Its one definition of immortality. Is someone immortal because their spirit goes to heaven? Or, are they immortal because their memory, their works, their actions are remembered through history. Christ - is Christ immortal in the sense implied in the Bible or is the Bible symbolic or he being immortalized by never slipping from the memory of Mankind? Is he immortal in the sense that millions, billions of people think about him every day? FDR, is he immortal because his spirit lives on or because spirit is defined by the idea of what he did? Hitler - is his spirit eternal in the afterlife or does our thinking about him daily cause the IDEA Hitler embodied to live in our minds forever.

Want to have Christ live forever? Think about him daily (pray) If you want people to remember your message, regardless if you are eternal in some kind of absolute sense or not, the key would be to get people to keep thinking about you daily. Setting people to think its wrong to NOT think of you would ensure they do.... wouldn't it?

Want to kill the Hitlers of the world? Ignore them until literally no mental though gives their memory reality.

Perhaps, what we call 'spirit' is the same thing as 'people of the future remember the fact that I existed in the past.' The 'spirit' of my life continues in the form of the memories of the people of the future.
