its probably because of all the programs at startup, antivirus programs slow them , definately norton, and you might also have spyware/ viruses... to change which programs load at login, hit the go to start menu -> run or hit windows key on keyboard and R at the same time, type msconfig go to startup and uncheck any unneeded items then hit ok....

Well if your computer has windows you can simply run a Defragment program wich will arrange all the stuff you have so you have more memmory. It also helps to uninstal some of the programs you don't use weather is a program you put in or a windows program like windows movie maker. It is also best to save as much as you can to a disk insted of saving to your hard drive because even pictures take alot of space. So all in all, all i can sugest is clear out as much space as you can, delete what you can, then run a Defragement program that would be found in your control panel settings.

I wont reinstall unless you have too, that would fix the problem but from the sounds of it you have alot of stuff running in the background.Get a program call Tuneup Utility's 2007,free for 30 days.Have it scan your system and have it correct your system errors and the program will let you see all start up programs and from there tun everything off you don't want to start up.Mainly the ones you don't have too run at the start of the system,if you don't use it as soon as the system starts turn it off and start it when you need it.Do a full system check with anti virus and spy ware.IF they system continues to do it after you turn off the extra programs.A good wipe will do it.

Sounds like you have a lot of programs starting up. Go to Start>Run>type msconfig>Startup. Now you can disable some of the unnecessary programs. If you are not sure what you can delete, run your pc through the test at http://www.pcpitstop.com/ . It will let you know what programs are not necessary.

Sounds like you have a lot of programs set to start up with windows. Install a startup manager http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/system/fwstartup.html to find out what those programs are, then look them up on the internet one by one to find out which ones to remove. Also, scan for viruses in case you have one, and run a registry cleaner like CCleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/

You can trim the number of programs that load up at start up if you want it to speed up the start up time. You can also upgrade your RAM to 1 gig which will help a lot. I actually just got through upgrading mine (it is easy to do).

That is not normal, re-install windows and your problem is solved.
Running other apps. in order to scan and find out what is causing the issue will just add to the problem.
Windows just gets bloated after a while I suggest you re-install it.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.

it could be that you have a virus or you multi-task too often and it kills the ram to be able to a lot at once..so either get some more ram or scan for viruses with mcafee..(if u got it)
