Betta female always are gravid (full of eggs) The male must first court her, then build a bubble nest at the top of the water, then they have to go through the mating dance and ritual. The female will start to let eggs drop out of her body, the male will fertilize them as they fall, and then go suck em up in his mouth, then spit them into the areated bubble nest. He will gaurd and protect and mom will go on being a fish, with little or no help to daddy. Usually becoming gravid a week to 10 days later again. She sometimes will even wait under a nest and eat eggs that drop from the bubbles. So best to take her out after the deed is done. Your tank must be large and well areated (oxygenated) and turn off the filter and pump if you have one... Best to get the bubble wall areater, something that doesnt agitate the water much because the nest is frail and turbulent water will cause alot of the developing fry to fall from the nest. If you dont turn off the pump and filter then the fry once hatched will get sucked up and killed in there. Also provide a large amount of fake Breeding grass and plants for them to hide. You need to feed the fry special food but you also need to clean the tank every day, replacing about 1/4 of the water daily, due to bacteria and molds that will start to grow cause the filter and pump arent on and food that isnt eaten. These bacteria that are developing will take oxygen from the water and suffocate plants and fish. My Betta Family, The Magnums, just had about 35 living babies a week ago!!!

The female will be really plump, and when she is really ready, an egg tube will be visible in her vent. This is a small sort of conical tube, only a little longer than a millimeter. It's fairly easy to see because it is white. Being in 1/2 of a divided tank, where the pair can see each other, is probably a help in coordinating the spawn.PeeTee

Female Betta with darker colour is easier to see if she's carrying egg, her abdomen will be swollen and you can see a yellowish tinge near the rear of the abdomen.
For a lighter colour betta, you can only guess from the size of her abdomen.
Betta can breed anytime, as there are from equatorial countries that does not have winters. They can bred throughout the year. So you can get her to the male once she show sign of carrying eggs.

If she's white, she probably would not coach her stripes.. so because it fairly is out of the question. And FYI.. Horizontal stripes potential the fish is under pressure.. breeding stripes would be vertical. women will consistently have eggs in them inspite of the incontrovertible fact that. Is she exhibiting alot of interest interior the male? Is he exhibiting interest in her? Has he equipped a bubble nest? Is he going to the nest, nonetheless to her? you ought to aim putting them mutually, yet determine it fairly is on an afternoon the place you may watch them very heavily purely in case issues get too aggressive and you ought to take her returned out asap. it could take them a mutually as (even some days) to spawn properly so which you will ought to have alot of persistence with it.

I think as soon as the male builds a bubble nest, she will be ready. Put them next to eachother in separate bowls so he can see her and then want to build a nest.
