I had a rude awakening on monday when I was thanking God for the extra no-work day to get my laundry caught up when I looked out my back window and saw an African American Family Celebrating with a cookout ballons fireworks, they even had a time when the older folks sat down and told the children stories. I realized I was missing the point, but I don't know how to fix it.

White people could have a cookout, etc. just like black people. Just because MLK Jr was black and was a huge part of the American Civil Rights Movement does not mean that it's all about the Black Power Movement where the entire focus is on being black. It's not a day that only black people know how to celebrate 'correctly'. Do whatever you want to do. The whole point of having equality for all races is to help everyone in the long run, not just one particular race. MLK just wanted a world where people didn't have to worry about discrimination and black people just happened to be the race that was leading that movement at that time because they were dealing more with the negative stuff. Maybe you missed the point this year but that's ok. Have a barbecue next year.

MLK was a great man for many reasons. Everyone should celebrate his life because he believed racial problems could be solved without violence. He moved everyone, was so positive about what could be and what we need to heal the gap between whites, blacks and Hispanics. The young folks today have no clue what we as a nation went through, nor do they know what the feelings of this nation were. The reasons are simple, drugs have taken over. MLK was truly awesome. WE celebrated with taking the family to a parade and then we BBQ ed at the State Park.
We are a white family.

MLK Day should be celebrated with activities for the undesirable. MLK knew that the middle warfare for equality became no longer only for Blacks and different minorities. The warfare became and nonetheless is for the overall public of the international...the undesirable. Worst vacation? Columbus Day i'll't believe we nonetheless rejoice the rape of human beings and land.

Celebrate by educating others about who MLK really was.The TRUTH is that he is not a legitimate reverend, he is not a bona fide PhD, and his name isn't really "Martin Luther King, Jr." What's left? Just a sexual degenerate, an America-hating Communist, and a criminal betrayer of even the interests of his own people. A liberal judge has sealed the FBI files on King until the year 2027 at the request of the King family. What are they trying to hide?

It's not really about white or black. You are really celebrating the cause that this man died for. Each person may celebrate it differently but mostly its just a day to remember WHY he died.

go to work and not expect anyone to hand you anything for free, or apologize for things done so long ago we were't there for. or constantly use the past to explain your failures in life now.

The question is not "How should they" but "why should they". In my opinion, it is a holiday in remembrance of a black, demanded by blacks, granted to blacks, and strictly for blacks. In our area, they even quit giving some people the day off for President's Day (Lincoln & Washington) just so they could have MLK day off. Now to me, Lincoln and Washington were far more deserving of our respect as a nation that MLK.
