Because the drug companies can't make money if their not. In the case of street drugs, the govt. won't make money if they are legalized . It always comes to the money trail.

Street drugs are illegal because the street drug lobby wants to keep it that way. They can't make money if drugs were legalized. Rx drugs are illegal without an Rx because the major drug company lobbyists keep it that way. In most countries a pharmacist can dispense Rx medications as needed without a Dr. Rx. You just get screwed. Get used to it.

Because the government feels it impaires your judgment to the point, your a threat to yourself or others. Now there is a gray area when it comes to medical grade drugs, as to whom is convinced whether it's benefits outweigh it's negative effects. So, as of now if something is illegal; society in general along with the respective government your live in. Have decided it represents too grave of a risk to be available to the public at large.

Most "hard" drugs are illegal because they can be dangerous, even in small amounts, have long term serious effects, and are addicting.

Marijuana may be illegal because of a desire to oppress/control immigrants in the early 20th century.

Because many people are too foolish to realize that the small use of some of the drugs (cocaine, heroin, LSD) can be extremely dangerous. Many things, including brain damage, dangerous infection, and altered body functions contribute to drugs being illegal.

Which drugs, they're all very different. Some of them are extremely dangerious and addicting, and some are not.

because some people on drugs go loco and endanger themselves as well as others. also they waste all their money and don't function fully in other areas
