The Egyptians started the tradition of wearing a wedding ring on the fourth finger of the left hand thousands of years ago. They believed that a vein in that finger, called vena amoris, or "love vein," traveled directly to the heart.
This is still the case.

Usually its on the left but you can wear it on whichever hand you want. Or even around your neck or just not wear one at all.

When you're married, you wear it on your left hand, on the ring finger.
If you're not married, you should probably not wear a ring at all.
