to the person who asked why don't you get a period, you don't ovulate, so you don't get a period, something to do with hormones, u also (if exculsively breastfeeding) don't get pregnant, it's the hormones. my gyn told me that when i had the baby and at my six week check up. so i have not had a period since i got pregnant and had not had any bleeding since 4 weeks after my delivery.

this really isn't an answer but more like a question, I've never heard of breastfeeding stopping a period. Most women don't have a period during pregnancy which is the cause for the 6 week period after-birth. How would you not have a period.

i have a 4 month old and i am also breastfeeding. for me the bleeding lasted about 6 - 7 weeks. it was only heavy for the first 1-2 weeks, but the lighter bleeding went on for a couple of weeks, then it stopped for a couple of days, then came back medium flow for about 3 days, then it was just light spotting for the 7th week. the breast feeding really helps though. I'm sure you've already felt the cramps during feedings which is a good sign that your uterus is shrinking back and moving along well.

I think that you should go to an hospital and get yourself checked out because I have never had bad vaginal bleeding after my son was born except that the first month I had a very hard bleeding . After you gave birth did you ever have a normal period? If not definitely go get checked.

I do not, nor have I ever, given birth to a child, so I can not give you first hand experience advice. However, my sister, my best friend, and my roommate all have had a baby, and I know that all three of them went through the same thing. I am a medical school student, and in my opinion, I would say its completely normal. You can always call your doctor and ask. I know it helps in easing the mind.
