I was looking for books to learn about evolution. And I am a big Dawkins fan. Mostly for atheism i'm just now starting to think evolution is valid. But Jonathan Wells’s book seems to say other wise. And I am thinking about getting it as a companion to my study of evolution. But I also realize he is a creationist. Is he just destroying evolution to somehow make his own theory seem better? Or is he actually speaking without a byist for his theism.

He's an idiot. Don't bother. As with most creationist nonsense, he repeats some standard talking points over and over again, even though they've been repeatedly debunked. Talkorigins.org has a page about his book, "Icons of Evolution", rebutting his points. You're much better off sticking to texts which actually teach you evolutionary biology before you read books attempting to debunk it anyway - how would you know when he's misrepresenting it, otherwise?

He's an opportunist. The Creationists needed a biologist on their side.
He purposely stepped up and has been lionized by the faithful/ignorant. He is extremely biased (not an attribute of a true scientist). Get his book (used) if you want...no books should be banned. As you learn more about evolution, you'll realize how weak and biased his arguments are.
