Are companies like SAGA legally allowed to only offer services to people over the age of 50? And "Sheila's Wheels"... they advertise car insurance for women only, can they legally do this?

I know in some cases companies can stipulate that workers must be Chinese (for instance in a Chinese restaurant) or Indian (to play a part in a stage show for example), but these are different.

It's like saying "Holidays for white people only", or "car insurance for Muslims only".... isn't it? Could you imagine the stink from women's rights groups if a car insuance company said "insurance for MEN only"?!

Unfortunately these days I think I need to put one... So before you all reply and start insulting me, I'm not at all sexist or racist (in fact I have friends from just about every "ethnic group" (is that PC enough?) that you can think of) the examples above are just EXAMPLES, nothing more... but I think they help demonstrate an interesting point!

I understand what you are saying and yes it does sound like some sort of discrimination but you have to look at what they are offering, they maybe offering a certain insurance that deals with the average ailments of 50 year old and above.

While some may advertise for a certain group, many do have other companies they work with who can help others. Many advertise for the person they feel they can reach the easiest .

A car insurance place would be crazy if they just took on men! How many claims would they get. Sheila's Wheels do that because women are safer drivers and they don't claim as much. SAGA is just like 18-30, some people just like to have a break with their own kind lol. They are allowed to do it just like insurance is higher for teenagers because they have more accidents.

Sheilas wheels, I think, also does insurance for men, but its not as cheap. I know Diamond does it for women and men. Women get it cheaper cos statistically their accidents are 'cheaper' in pay out terms.
Positive discrimination eg offering services to over 50s who are normally excluded from mainstream services (eg insurance, cheap hols etc) is allowed.

Discrimination is Discrimination is Discrimination
For Chinese and Indians who only wish to hire their own -- my suggestion is to stay in their countries.

I'm sure the Japanese, for example wouldn't like the following scenario:
An American moves to Tokyo, sets up a restaurant serving with say Western/Cowboy themes, and only hires other Americans living there, or at best, insists that Japanese employees dye their hair.

Yes please! Absolutely agree with you, but do you really want to insure your car with "Sheila's Wheels"?
