a bachelors degree and a teaching certificate. In most states you need an art endorsement (which means you had to have taken so many credits of art in college). In my state you only need an art endorsement to teach grades 7-12.

Here in Ontario, you'd need an honors degree of any kind including 3-5 full courses in art (depending on the teaching college you applied to) as well as a Bachelor of Education (1-year degree) and certification from the College of Teachers (probably automatic if you have no criminal record). To be a secondary school art teacher you'd also need to have a second teachable area - another 2-3 courses in another subject that you'd be expected to teach as well.

Good luck and God bless!

I am not sure where you are...but in the UK you would need a degree in a relevant subject, if not a relevant subject you would also have to prove you have experience of the area you wish to teach.

Also GCSE maths and English are a must. If you were born after 1979 (ish) then you would need science as well.

They do take mature students various experiences into account also. But a degree is still needed.

If you don't have the required GCSEs certainly on my PGCE some people are doing these alongside the course.

My school is in the top 1% of secondary schools. With the best headteacher in England. Yet when my english teacher was off and we had do a bit of coursework. Due in before she got back we had this supply teacher that didnt no nothing about english lessons. We had this teacher fo RE aswell and he didnt no nothin bout that either. Why cant schools just pay for better teachers. Luckily about my coursework it was just the 1st draft. Otherwise I would have been doomed!
