Do you initiate the conversation or do they? How many of them end up becoming more than acquaintances?

I guess on a day-to-day basis you could meet alot of people. If you want to get to know them, then you initiate the conversation. Very few people I have met in casual or work situations really ever become more than just an acquaintance but sometimes you will meet someone who interest you and you might want to get to know them better. I try to stick with the friends I have known a long time but it is always fun to meet new people, you never know what might happen or what you might learn from them.
