In practice and in games from falling tripping over sticks etc. approx 7 coaches die or have permanent brain damage in north America. I need some way to confirm this statement.

None...the players need to wear helmets..not the coaches.

USA Hockey now requires all coaches to wear helmets when on the ice for practices.

Good rule too. First practice of the season i had a pee-wee clip the back of my ankles and sent me on my head. Probably would have had a severe concussion at the least if i would have been helmetless.

Instead I got up and made the 9 year old skate until he puked. Just kidding, I brushed him off and sent him on his way. Close call though!

I don't know about North America as a whole but you can check out www.minnesotahockey.org for info in that State. On this website it states that coaches in Minnesota have to wear helmets as of September 1. You may have to go State by State and Province by Province. Good luck.

I coached amateur hockey for 6 years, and never once got hit with a puck during a game, let alone had one hit on the dome. in fact I have never even heard of a coach getting hit with a puck or sustaining any injury from a puck hit. good luck with your research.

I've seen coaches will black eyes due to flying pucks but I have never heard of any of them having brain damage, death or even a serious injury.

I've never heard of such a thing. Rob Ray got hit in the behind with a puck last night because he sits between the benches at HSBC Arena as part of the Sabres TV broadcasts, though. That was pretty funny.

I've never heard of anyone on the bench even getting a concussion, let alone dying.
