At my school, once you took final exams and finished all coursework, you had to complete an internship with a local ambulance company. You had to spend about 500 hours on the ambulance, with about 200 or so patient contacts. It took me 3 months to complete the internship, but I've known people who completed it in as little as 2 months, or as much as 6 months.
