I am absolutely blown away by Mozart's Requiem. I know there probably isn't anything equally as overwhelming but I'd love to explore music which sounds similar.

Are there any other works, requiems or otherwise, which have the same kind of intensity and sound as powerful?

Mozart was most definitely a true musical genius.

Didn't he die while writing the Requiem?

Loads. For Requiems try Faure's Requiem for a serene but uplifting approach, or Verdi's for a whopping great wild threatrical approach. Or, my favourite Requiem, Brahms's Ein Deutsches Requiem (there is a very good cheap recording on LSO Live by the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Andre Previn) - Brahms doesn't use the Latin Requiem Mass text with its 'Day of Wrath', 'Lamb of God' etc, but selects parts of the Lutheran bible, and the music is very humane. It is really beautiful.

If you particuarly like Mozart's choral music, he wrote several masses, and operas.

The greatest choral piece of all, in my view, is Beethoven's Missa Solemnis. Literally breathtaking stuff. But it is really hard work as a piece and it might be something to try when you've had a go at some of the others.

Powerful?
I'd say Verdi's Requiem is powerful (very same; famous for the Dies Irae)
Saint-Saens' Symphony No. 3 "Organ" is SUPER POWERFUL and my favorite piece of all time.
If you're talking about loud, of course, stuff like Carmina Burana by Orff, Beethoven's Symph. No. 9, etc are strong and powerful.

After a performance by the Minnesota Orchestra, I fell in love with Ravel's "Daphnis et Chloe" -- an unbelieveably moving, powerful ballet score that's great without the ballet.

Others you should like:
Gustav Mahler
Saint-Saens (my favorite composer)
Chopin (for moody piano pieces -- his "noturnes" give off a cool, erie vibe)
Beethoven (the true master -- the pioneer of "romantic" music)
Shostakovich (very russian; sometimes a little hard to listen to, but give it a chance)

Mozart's Requiem is pretty cool. May I suggest some Wagner? Try Die Walkure or Gotterdammerung. Pretty intense stuff.

I've never heard one better! It's too bad Mozart died so young, but he left behind an enormous body of work. Just explore the rest of his music. Happy listening!

I think that Mozart's requiem is beautiful too. I want the Lacrimosa to be played at my funeral.

Absolutely beautiful isn't it?

Haven't heard any better classical music to be honest but you can look it up on Amazon and see what other people bought who bought that.
