Yes -- about ten percent of the population is left handed. Those who are forced to switch frequently develop problems, notably stuttering.
The brain is "wired" one way or the other. There are two hemispheres that have somewhat different functions. The left hemisphere controls the right hand, while the right hemisphere controls the left hand.
People who have a stroke (brain damage to one side) will become weak on the opposite side. The muscles in the face will droop, and the arm/hand, leg/foot on that side will become weak.

my mom says I am beacause ever since I was born I'd always use my left hand for everything, like reach9ing for a toy, and opening a door,to writing when I learned.I'm guessing most of us lefties are born left handed. And the other portion of us lefties might've broken their right arm and had to learn to use things with their left arm. It's confusing.

I have heard that we lefties have a thicker corpus callosum, the gizmo that separates the brain into halves. I don't know what that means or why that is, but I'd venture to guess then, that yeah, we're born that way. I am among several lefties in my family.

Yes! I think so. I was very much left handed as a kid but my mom forced me to use my right hand. Also, my husband is left handed and his creativity is simply amazing!

Yes. I understand that all lefties at one time were twins--even if the other fetus does not develop.
