We're both happy in new relationships and live far away. But he was my first and I will always have this special place in my heart for him. OK, sounds really sappy, but it's true. We keep in touch once in a while. Can I still think of him and send him a card for Valentine's day?

No, it would not be OK for you to send him a valentine. Valentine's day is for couples, and you and your first love are with other people now.

Think of how his girlfriend would feel if he were to receive a valentine from an ex girlfriend?

First love or not, sending an ex a valentine, especially if he is involved with someone else is just not right.

Keep him in that special place in your heart, he was after all your first love. But since you are both with someone else, there is really no need to send a valentine to him.

I don't think it's appropriate to send him a Valentine's day card. Maybe you could wait until after the holiday and just send one of those friendship cards that are funny and just say you wanted to say hi.
