Why do some people think Texans live on a farm, ride horses everywhere, and are cowboya/cowgirls?

Good point. I think people watch to much tv. My husband is from Texas and yea he road horses and lived on a farm but there is much more to him than just that. It is my personal opinion that Texas boys are the best to have a relationship with.

Because that's the image portrayed of Texans throughout films and TV, and if someone has never been to Texas then they will go with what they have seen previously.

Simple, in the past (1850s), that was how life was in TX and the "WILD WEST". After independence and statehood, however, things started to change...you know, cities, urban areas, that kind of stuff. The main influence in on movies of the west...and cartoons, of course.
You can't blame anyone...I must admit that that's what I thought of TX before I came to the USA! I thought it was a big ol' desert...I tell ya' what...lol
It's normal for people to think that way...and they will be the one who will be disappointed...lol

Texas = cowboys
california = rich stuck up or straight hood
ohio = straight cornfields
new york = business people
West Virginia = coal miners
Kentucky = your brother is your husband
Alaska - straight igloos and ice
Arizona - all desert
The list goes on.... every state has its stereotype... u just have to chose weather to believe it or not

maybe because that's the basic part of texas and everytime someone new comes in, they think that texas is country
