always assumed on here to be flag-burning, unpatriotic, baby-killers? I am a liberal, but it is a way of thinking, not an evil conspiracy against our govt. I do not support abortion and would kick someone in the teeth if I saw them burning a flag. I just think that Dems agree with my point of view more than Republicans do. The next time you say "Why do Liberals........., maybe you should ask a liberal what they think instead of just assuming.

Bob. I am not hiding behind anything. There are other issues, such as the war and social programs that are more important to me. I work with disabled adults, so social programs are very important to me and the people I help.

Oh, come on -- they're not "assuming" anything -- it's a bunch of hard-core right-wingers who make things up about "liberals" to try and scare moderates into thinking liberals are "bad." They all know fully that what they post are lies -- they do it intentionally.
Don't let it get to you -- this is a typical right-wing tatic...don't discuss the issues, make your opponents look bad so you don't have to discuss issues!
And yes, Alex is right: liberals (most anyway, myself included) support anyone's right to burn the US flag. I've never burned one myself. The flag is a piece of cloth, who cares if somebody wants to express themselves by burning it? Doesn't hurt me, doesn't hurt my country. I'd much rather have people burn flags than kill thousands of US troops and hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians in a made-up war...

It doesn't sound like you are a liberal. Just because you vote Democrat doesn't make you a liberal. The term Liberal has been adopted to represent the radical extreme of the left. The term does represent flag-burning, unpatriotic, baby killers. Just because you have some "liberal" ideals, that does not make you a radical. Listen, Conservatives use the term Liberal as a derogatory, Liberals call Conservatives Neocons derogatorily. There are extremists on both sides that fit this label, but you (it appears) and I are not those labels. You sound like a moderate Democrat, maybe even a moderate Republican. I am a Libertarian who votes Republican, however the current Republican regime are composed of New Right Republicans who I do not agree with. Once we all give up these labels and come together with ideas we can move this country in the right direction. Most Americans believe in Laissez-faire government, limited government control on personal freedoms, most are pro-choice and most love their country, but they don't speak up. Its the radicals from both side you hear from, and you will hear as much Neocon as you will Liberal. The silent majority needs to take back this country from the radicals on both sides, but first we have to cast off our apathy.

I could counter with this question. Why are conservative on here always assumed to be right wing fanatical religious fascist war mongers who are just blind sheep for the administration? The point I am trying to make here is that both sides are pretty equally guilty of this type of behavior and it is not right for either side. I like intelligent honest debate, but that is not what you get on Yahoo Answers the majority of the time. It is not sufficient to blame the opposition while ignoring the same behavior on your chosen side. Just look at some of the answers you received in agreement to this question and what I am saying will be abundantly clear. You are complaining about being generalized while engaging in the exact same behavior yourself. I think it is good that you have opinions and I for one am always willing to listen to those opinions if they are presented in an honest intelligent manner and I would hope you would extend the same courtesy to me. The trick is not to stoop to the level of the bomb throwers, but rather to present educated positions for those who might be reading who do not fit the radical mold.

By supporting the democratic party with your vote, you are saying it is ok for these items to happen.
You need to stand up for what you believe in. If you feel abortion is not right, then you should vote with those convictions and not let other things override your decision. Its an innocent baby for goodness sake! Defend it and quit hiding behind the "it was declared constitutional" and its legal. Just because its legal, does not make it right.

Republicans are just hung up on the word "liberal" due to the thorough brain scrubbing they get from sources like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Mann Coulter. They don't even realize that the Demcratic Party isn't really a "Political Party" - but, rather a coalition of a lot of different groups and beliefs.

Maybe you're a moderate and not a liberal? I have been called a Right Wing Conservative but I believe in a woman's right to choose (as long as it's done in the last weeks of pregnancy) and I don't care if you want to marry a man, woman or an Irish Setter because it's none of my business. I think I'm a moderate.

It's too easy to use words like "all" and "always". I'm a conservative, and I'll bet that we have a lot in common. The only time that most "liberals" or "conservatives" get kicked in the chops by me is when they open their mouths and say stupid things. I think that all this word play is way out of hand any more.

Because anyone who's not a conservative needs to be demonized in order for that part of the far right to attack with labels instead of actual arguments.
The dialog goes something like this:
"I don't think we should be trying to win a war where both sides hate us"
"You're a commie, liberal, atheist, flagburnin, babykillin, christ hating....blah,blah,blah"
There's an old Sicilian saying: Never try to teach a pig to whistle. It annoys the pig and it never learns to whistle.
And that's why I gave up on trying to debate with conservatives

some people on this site read one thing about you disagreeing with Bush policy, and erroneously think you are a liberal. I am more conservative than most, yet there is no longer any room in the GOP for conservatives, and it looks like the dems are making room for them! bizzarro world...
