When you menstrual cycle first begins it may be very light and only last a day or two. Once your body settles into a routine you will have a full period of maybe three or four days, with it tapering down to very light for the next couple of days. The cycle is usually twenty eight days but remember this is only average and yours can be shorter or longer. Think of it as three weeks off and one week on. Although this again is just average and your cycle may be slightly different.

You are probably experiencing what is described as 'menarche.'
This words describes a time before a young woman begins her menstrual cycle.
The following should help a little.
MENARCHE: Young girls need health education to help them understand the workings of their bodies and to take the mystery out of the onset of menstruation. Parents, especially mothers, should have frank and open discussions with their daughters. If there is a problem, girls should not be left shyly wondering what has gone wrong or feeling that they must endure very heavy menstruation or acute pains at that time of the month. If their parents are not able to help, perhaps some older woman friend could offer guidance regarding appropriate medical advice.
How can a young woman know whether her periods are normal? In the same individual, they can be quite variable. Menstrual irregularities are common in the first six months to one year (or even two years in some cases) after menarche and are usually due to minor hormonal changes. If after these early years, there are occasional changes in the length of the menstrual cycle or in the character of the bleeding, this is considered normal. More than this could be a warning sign that calls for a medical checkup.
Hope this helps.

There is no way to tell, next month it may last 7 days or next week it may come back. Your body will have to make its own cycle, nobody is the same. Your body has to figure out its own schedule. it should start around the same time next month. There are few people that are like clockwork and can tell you the exact hour they are going to start. But you sound pretty much normal for the first time.

First and foremost, congratulations.
It can take your body 3 years or more to figure out how to regularize you cycle. So, don't worry about it.
I'm adding some links about menstruation. Read them, of course, but you should also talk with your mother or other older female relative. If none of them is available to you (I don't mean as in a hour or so, but simply not around), then speak with a friend's mother or with the school nurse. Just sit and down ask questions and listen to the answers.

Everyone's body is different. Chances are, it's normal. But you can always talk to your doctor or mother. With it being your very first period, it's probably just not regulated yet. That will or should happen over time.

Like the old cliche goes 'You are officially a woman now' =) yeah!! =) *grinz* oh! & welcome to cramps, break outs & sore breasts too! hahaha
Ok! back to your question:
As mentioned, everyone's different. Don't panick! After years of menstrual cycle, there are still some months where mine last only 2days! So don't worry about it. The amount of blood discharged [eewww that sounds gross] depends on alot of factors; diet, stress, body make up ETC. so don't you go panicking yah? =)

Mine did it too, that happened about a week ago and it's stopped and it was my first. I'm not really sure what's up with that.... may'be it's something else. I heard that everyone's different so maybe it will start back in a couple of days
