There are sites, such as www.howstuffworks.com, which will outline the basics of the mechanics of these fields. There is absolutely no way to substitute for hands-on apprenticeship under experienced guidance, however.

Kevin....I dont think so bud Ive been a carpenter for almost 10 years now and I would definatly have to say that my skills and abilities were most improved by hands on experience. Its hands on training....umm good luck on that
