you're not supposed to put seashells in a fish tank, but the rocks and stuff should be okay... go to drsfostersmith.com and read up a bit on seashells... they have some odd bacteria that can get in them from their previous owners (the fish in them).
they do make fake seashells for your fish tank,tho.... maybe get some of those.... also, what did you clean them with? if you used any kinds of cleaning products on them that weren't inteded for fish tanks, you can poison your fish. just be really careful.
good luck, just make sure you get some plants too, so he has a place to hide.
good luck!! hope that helps!!

The salt will not be a problem. The common livebearers all benefit from having some salt (1 tsp/gallon, 1 Tbsp./5 gallons) in their water. The sea shells are made of calcium carbonate and may raise your pH to higher levels than your fish will want. As for the rock, do you know what it is made out of? If it's limestone, it may also raise the pH. You can check this by putting a drop of vinegar on the rock. If it fizzes, it has calcium carbonate, so don't use it. At any rate, if you did not use dilute bleach (5%) or very hot water on the rocks, you may be introducing a source of algae to your tank.

If they have been soaked for several days they are probably safe. However, I would have soaked them for a day then changed the water and soaked them a day and changed the water etc for about a week. The salt on the items you mentioned will dissolve in water... just rinse them well.

Absolutely, the little bit of salt that acumulates from the items you pulled from the ocean will get filtered before they can ever hurt the fish.

swords and mollies and platys are brackish fish -- they like a bit of salt in their water so i think it would be fine. if you grow plants put shells in rosemary. it likes brackish water too!

It should be safe to put them in the tank but I personally boil everything before I put it in my tank.
