True. However people would complain that televising it is only exploitation and is some how a violation of their civil rights. The thing is, the one that would complain would be, as they usually are in such cases, people that don't have anything to do with the people that participate. And simply put the netwowrks dont have the balls to do it. Thanks to the FCC networks don't have any balls at all anymore.

Unfortunately for the athletes, there is probably not a large enough interest in the Special Olympics. I'm guessing that the only people really interested in watching the events are the families of the athletes, and they will be there in person, not watching on TV. Television is all about money, and the Special Olympics would probably not get the ratings necessary for the network to make enough money. Maybe I am too cynical, but I don't think mainstream America really cares about people with disabilities.

because viewer like me don't know I should cry, laught or enjoy the program at all.... it's all about guilt. someone need to tell me how to enjoy watching the game and not make any wager on those kids. When we watch sports events we pretend we are those people on TV even we sit on the couch eating chips. tell me how I can enjoy my day off watching kids racing around the track? now if you show lottery numbers during the game or turn it into a blood sport at least you get some viewer. Or if you watch it and get a itemized deduction from IRS there is a bonus! got to get a draw or a hook. or turn it into a international pride thing like the little league.

probably worried about people making fun of it, people using clips of it to mock them or other situations... doing edits, voiceovers, etc...

never underestimate how cruel a struggling comedian / television show can be.
