unless you have time to come really look at houses or know you will be staying in houston for quite some time, i recommend getting an apartment first. then once you have gotten to know the area better and where you will be working, traffic patterns, etc, you know where to look for a house. katy is a good area, just west of houston, so it would be quite a drive in if you have to go towards downtown for work, I-10 is a nightmare if you have to travel during regular traffic hours. memorial is a great area, but quite expensive compared to katy. as for preschools, you really need to get some references and go check them out. if you are leaving your daughter with complete strangers, you need to make sure this is even more looked into than your housing. if you are looking into a private school preschool program, check into yorkshire academy on memorial drive. i taught there last year and they have an excellent program. small classes and very professional teachers and staff. i believe the mall you are referencing is memorial city mall, but the one closest to memorial park is the galleria.
my best advice is you need to try and come down to visit. its too difficult to move, much less move and not know what you are getting. come to houston for a weekend so you can check into housing and the area your husband will be working. for the preschools, this will obviously have to be done during the week.

Don't look back. Denver is such a horrible city you will turn into stone if you look back.
Houston for being the 4th largest city in the us has some of the best housing prices in the country. I would recommend. buying. All of the homes for sale can be found in the Houston Area Realtors website:
www.har.com
If you husband is going to work in Memorial I would recommend Memorial over Katy. Houston has a terrible transportation system and in order to avoid too much stress a short commute is a good idea.
BTW there is no mall in Memorial Park. It is a park as in green space, jogging trail, golf course, baseball fields, volleyball courts and etc..
You must mean Memorial City Mall.

I would look near the mall for a house. The schools there are very good.

Actually, check out Sugarland. Your husband can jump on the toll road to get to Memorial in a decent amount of time. Sugarland is a great neighborhood with good schools and reasonable priced housing. Check out Sugar Creek subdivision. Houses start in the low 100's. Everything you need is out there too, suburban living, city feel - and lots of trees.
I agree with the previous poster, if you can, take a look see trip down here. If not, you might want to consider Oakwood apartments. There is one on Voss at Richmond which also isn't too far away from Memorial. Oakwoods are furnished (or you can also do unfurnished) that can do month to month, or even weekly rates (and no, they are not a 'hooker' hotel, they are set up for relocations and business stays) and even have a grocery store on property, cleaners and gym.
Katy is nice, but the I-10 issue will drive you crazy in no time. There are reasonably priced apartments in Memorial, but they are older (a lot older) and houses cost a bundle (all about the location).

I-10 is a mess and will be under construction for some time making Katy, Texas a hard sell right now. My recommendation would be for north Houston. The Spring, Woodlands, or Kingwood areas (Spring/Woodlands as my first choices). These areas are both very family friendly and they offer a wide range of choices where home prices are concerned. Also, their ISDs are highly rated academically and may be your best choice if you are planing to go the public school route. Some may say that it is located to far north from Houston, but in fact it is no farther north then Katy is south of Houston and the traffic is much more manageable.
Good Luck!

Katy is very good. And has good schools. I lived out there for quite a while. Memorial area is much more expensive. Anything "inner loop" you will be paying more for. As someone else mentioned - the traffic to and from Katy is horrendous and should be avoided. Sugar Land is a great area...growing as well. Good schools. Traffic isn't the best (but then none of Houston is really good for that). The 290 outer area is growing as well but can get dicey as far as neighborhoods. Either really good or not so great at all. I agree with the previous poster. Get an apartment for a period of time. Figure out what you will tolerate for traffic. What you can afford as far as taxes (Greatly varies) and especially homeowner association fees. My ex and I paid nearly 1k a year to live out in Katy. Well worth it but an unexpected cost.

katy has some of the best schools and has won the state championship football several times. You can get a house very reasonable out there but if you choose an apartment arounf Memorial City Mall look out not nice part of town. I would go towards Katy for excellent living and schools.

Depends on what you want to spend.
Visit www.har.com
It is the Houston Area Realtors web site and is helping us with our house search.
I'm in the Memorial area and I love it here. Problem is I can't afford to live here in a house so we're renting a condo near Beltway 8. Which mall is in Memorial Park? Do you mean Memorial City, or the Galleria which is near Memorial Park?

Denver is the play where in fact the glow can sun 300 times of year. Denver is a thriving national scene, varied neighborhoods, and organic splendor mix for the world's most magnificent playground and with hotelbye you will see getting there. Denver is the area for: World-class attractions, natural wonders, booming arts scene, dozens of revolutionary and acclaimed restaurants and nightlife possibilities galore. Denver definitly got it all. In Denver you are able to look at the Mount Evans and the Mount Evans Highway. The Mount Evans Highway is a seasonal road which is shut all through the winter weeks

Not at all, YA is for answers after all. Ask away! Austin Texas is lovely, San Antonio is interesting too - other parts are not that great. To be fair - it is a HUGE state - it used to be it's own little country/republic before it joined the union. The accent in the south west grows on you - if you visit you will be saying "y'all" by the end of the week. The best place...? Wow - there are so many answers to that. It really depends on what you want/like. We really do have everything. Though I must say - California is one of the most beautiful states in the US of those I have visited/lived in. I have attached a link with some basic information on the states to get you started.

Check out the Cypress area in Northwest Houston. I was raised there and it a very nice area with great schools (Cy-Fair ISD). Cypress, Champions, Sugar Land and Katy are the best areas that I've been to. I also advise that you get an EZ-Tag, so you dont have to bother with the tolls on the tollway. Good Luck!
