Why did Europe begin to "modernize" before Asia, the Americas and Africa?

What circumstances caused this. Do not give me any racist or social darwinist answers because:

1)It is ridiculuous
2) You will make yourself look like an @$$
3) Because it has to do with the envirnment and geographical circumstances most likely.

Do you think that the other continents would have been better off without Europe?


Do not give a biased or one sided answer. Give some actually thought to both sides of the situation. Especially since the other continents had better the resources that Europes needed to advance and more. Could the others have developed on their own eventually?

The biggest of the reoccuring themes is that they need to be safe from seizure. Anytime you have a despot/ monarch who can seize your enterprize, property and fortune, why would you waste your time? Next people have to have the freedom to do as they please, in other words, they can't be slaves or slightly better, wards of the feudal state.
