Most girls can tell you every major magazine that is printed for them and who is going to be featured. When you open these magazines they contain three main facets: make-up, boy advice, and clothing. I find it perfectly fine that girls are a little fixated when young just like guys are fixated on sports, cars, and girls at the same age. But I feel repulsed by the fact that in a magazine of almost 170 to 300 pages there isn't hardly more then five pages on average that pertains to something going on in the international arena that relates to more than being thin or having the right look. Women all over the world are viewed as inferior and I guess from what we collectively are reading, I feel as though we might be deserving it being as girls and young women even nearing my age of twenty know more about Vogue's celebrity of the month then they do about political economy or history. How disturbing is this for you??

Being shallow is easier than being aware of today's world. Make-up and clothing are more attainable than trying to fix world hunger or advocate peace.

No, I don't. Most girls are just looking for a break from their ordinary lives and read magazines for entertainment. It's not a magazine that should be teaching girls about the world. That is the responsibility of teachers and parents. I am 18 years old and I have not read a teen magazine for quite some time, but every article about politics was very general and had a definite liberal slant. Teen magazines should not be teaching kids about politics. Learning how to attract boys and apply eyeliner will not harm them.

I think it is actually a lot worse than it used to be. Many of the things that are advertised on TV or in mags are geared to keep people in bondage and insecure. Whether it is debt, plastic surgery a new seasonal wardrobe etc It is set up to make society believe that there is always something that you will need no matter how content your "self-help" book says you are-(which,sarcastically, is another trap). It's all about money, it's just dressed up in vanity. If people ignore it all or would not buy into, what would happen?
It's not just girls either...
