There are books of patterns available online and in some craft stores, but they tend to be very detailed and/or oriented to do pyrography, not classic woodburning. I've found some of the best designs, especially for getting started, are in black and white clip art collections. Some of these are available online, but often you can't get a good look at the art before buying. I'd recommend going to a large bookstore (like Borders or Barnes & Noble) and looking at the books themselves. They're usually in the Art or Craft sections, usually on a bottom shelf. They're thin books designed to be photocopied. Thumb through a few; they're usually on themes, like a book of floral clip art or a book of animal clip art etc. Pick one or two, photocopy and transfer your favorite to make sure you like the style. Good luck!
