You are correct the crane is the dumbest bird in the aviary community. It tries to fly but with no luck and the male cranes are always looked down upon by there female counter parts.

great question! I would love an aviary that was half open/half closed. I would love the birds to have the option at all times of choosing the protected surroundings (from weather, sounds, other animals, etc) of inside. Just as convenient would I love their ability to be outside in the fenced aviary so as to choose t heir own environment filled with trees, shrubs, plants, fountains but with enough room for me to observe and enjoy their interaction.

The dodo 'was' the dumbest bird in the aviary community, so may be a viable answer depending semantics.

The owl is close to being the dumbest bird. An expert who told us this explained that its eyes were so big, there wasn't much room left in its skull for brain . . .

I heard it was the Turkey...if they look up on a rain storm, they could die from drowning...

I'm not sure how true that is, but it sounds good to me!
