We become better and stronger people as we triumph over adversity, but there is a trend emerging where people are being given permission to medicate themselves to the point that they no longer have to meet the facts of life head on.

it seems that we are all being put to sleep by the drug companies! Consider this;

If a person can't feel pain, then they can't respond and pull away from what is hurting them, therefore the FEELING of PAIN is a healthy response to a negative influence and CAUSES a person to MAKE A CHANGE.

We need to be able to feel some sadness so that we can overcome, grow and progress, while learning to fix and or to eliminate those things in our lives that make us sad.

This is the ONLY WAY OUR WORLD WILL BECOME A BETTER PLACE. To keep drugging everyone is to allow our world to collapse from within.

So now, are you REALLY depressed and in need of medical assistance or does life just suck right now and the sooner you face the facts the better you'll be for it?

Dan: My remarks make room for those who are "really" depressed. My argument lies with those who have a bad day, week, month or even year and like to shout out, "I'm depressed!" When really all they are, are people who are struggling to deal with adversity in their lives.

The drug companies are leading the population to believe that if you aren't smiling and running through the park, playing ball with your perfectly bred lab then you are depressed and if you take "our" pill, you can be as happy as all these other people who are taking our pill(s).

Like it or not I have observed a trend in the work place and out and about. People automatically self diagnose their depression and they have learned the "DEPRESSION SPEAK" enough that their Dr.'s are handing out drugs left and right without follow up visits, even.

This is a scary trend for a society to ignore.

As for legitimate cases of depression... that is an all together different issue than the one I am discussing!

no, you are wrong and foolish and possibly dangerous. Some people are REALLY depressed and need medication to overcome it. Grow up and get over yourself. You are one of the people the rest of us are so sick of. You think you have all the answers but I suspect that you are a privileged little kid who thinks they have the secret to life. Get some experience with real pain and actual loss. Until then, keep your high and mighty crap to yourself and go plug in your electric car. the rest of us have work to do.

Reply to additional details.
What makes you think that you are qualified to diagnose what will make our world colapse from within anyway. Just because you have watched years of TV does not mean that you know squat about the world. People have been self medicating with Drugs, alcohol, religion, and sex for THOUSANDS of years. Your implication that the common person should be ashamed of taking prescriptions to deal with life is misguided and foolish. All the drug companies are guilty of is fantactic marketing. Ever since there have been humans we have been using substances to alleviate the suffering of the human condition. Life is not an expose on your TV. And yeah, I think I understand your point, but I also think you show an incredible lack of experience with reality for trying to make it. Intelectually you are testing the waters, I can understand that, but you are not ready to cure the world of its ills yet. If you are looking for a real answer to a real question here it is.
No matter what your question would be, the answer is:
I haven't got the time to explain it to you, and you don't have the experience to understand the answer.

Gosh I used to hate it when people would say that to me when I was younger, but now that I am not, I realize they were right.
Try not to overcommit yourself to anything intelectually just yet. You are not ready. When you are, you will do fantastically well.
Cheers.

Hi, I think comparing physical pain with mental agony/trauma is not appropriate.
There are people who are depressed in life and who need medication but there are also people who are going through a bad period, and are fully capable of handling their situations without any medical help. It's the maturity that counts.

The other side of that coin is being so empty and so lost and so hopeless that you feel the only way out is to kill yourself.

Medication has it's place.
