and a black customer just told one of my female associates that it was illegal to ID black people in the state of California. What am I suppose to think?

It is not illegal to ID anyone who you question might be under age. It is your tail that is on the line when it comes to identifying someone properly. If you were to sell alcohol to a minor and they were to be stopped outside the store, the authorities would come after you. Don't be afraid to do your job, they are full of crap.

I would be watching him. It's perfectly legal. so he's probaly using someone elses credit card or something. or if he's trying to buy something with an age limit , you definatly have the right to check.
