Can anyone give me a very brief, understandable explanation of the situation in Darfur?

I know what's happening, but I don't know how the conflict started. Please don't just copy and paste a huge long thing from another site; I'd like to know from a real person.

I fear that this situation is not truly understandable any longer for anybody.
How it started? As many conflicts start, by greed for power.
