Here is something you might be able to do.......

take a cardboard box or heavy paper.......make like a tic tac toe board on it using your measurements (the lines running horizontal would be 7 1/2 inches long - the lines running vertical should be 10 inches long--make one of the sides double in length this would be for the top ) than take an exacto and lightly score along the lined (do not cut..you just want to make the paper or cardboad bend better) ( if you can't use glue...use tape if you can't use tape..than before you score the lines make tabs on the vertical lines half way down on the side....after you cut the extra paper or cardboard away...form your box....find out where the tabs hit and make slits to accommodate them........

after you draw your lines check the middle and make sure all 4 sides are 2 1/2 inches long...than check all the lines out from it and make sure they are the same length...except for the bottom portion which should be 5 inches.....

- sides to fold down in..or you could extend this end
- by a quarter of an inches and than fold the extra
- length down inside the box to close it.....

as you can see I am not very computer savvy... ....I hope I didn't confuse you....my kid got the about the same assignment accept without the lid....and this was the easiest way I could think to make it....he made it and came out with an A on it.....

I hope this helped...

How do you want your box to look? There are a lot of ways to make this. The one that comes to mind first is using dove tale joints. They are commonly used in nice dresser drawers. This project could also be done using mortise and tenon joints (plain or floating). You can also use wooden pegs to attache the pieces together. A lot of Amish use this style and they last for years. I recommend drilling the holes a little smaller though and baking the dowels at a low temp to make them shrink a bit (very small amount of shrinking). Temperature wise I say...100f. When put back into the holes they will expand back to original size from the moisture content present in the other wood. Also if you just don't have glue present you can make it out of rice mixed with a small amount of water and then mash it into a paste. Preferably sticky rice if you have it. Personally I would make dovetail joints in combination with dowels to act as nails. This will make both a very decorative box, and a very sturdy box if done correctly.
