I agree with you on Tales of the Unexpected.....however, I have recently watched them again and I'm afraid to say that they are nowhere near as scary now that I am 35, but still worth watching for nostalgic reasons!
I think that the programme which scared me most of all was Sapphire & Steel.....who remembers the man with no face???

The Partridge Family...
All the kids looked different with different hair colors...
They sang devil worship music.
They got around driving a school bus.
The mom was nice and sweet and Mr Kincaid was always there but what did he do? Of course, it was all a front.
He watching the kids when the mom was out? Making sure they didn't escape?
Did you notice that every different town they went to in their bus, a local child went missing and the band had a new tamborine player?
What kind of dark forces were at work?

the Outer Limits...
it was in black and white. Kind of like the twilight zone, but an hour long. Two of the scariest episodes were one with this big ugly bug, with a human face, that kept following this couple around in the desert; the other was the one where this guy somehow made himself smarter and smarter, and his head just kept on growing and growing, until he became monstrous.

The Twilight Zone. Bear in mind I was only about 4, and my brother used to stand outside my bedroom in the middle of the night humming the tune. Scared the bejebus out of me. I had a very liberal father lol, he didn't believe in restricted my TV viewing.

Tales beyond the crypt. It had all of these short showings of different stories of people murdering each other and the ghost coming back to torment them or weird animal things attacking people.

There was a movie when I was a kid (in the 70's) that my mom and dad went to see at the drive-in. I was supposed to be asleep in the back, but watched anyway. It had Rosie Grier and Raymond Burr in it and it was about a rich white guy who was dying and had his head transplanted onto a black guy's shoulder, so this big black guy, Rosie Grier, is walking around with an ugly white guy's head stuck to his shoulder, bitching him out and complaining. Thinking about it now makes me laugh, but it was so traumatizing to me at the time.
There was also this movie called TROG - scared the crap out of me for years!
