Nick Weaver - He has shown himself this season to be just as good as he was in 90's when he was long tipped to be the next england keeper. Plus after coming back after a long string of injuries has to something that is applauded. That kind of stickability breeds character and performance.

Plus of note is the keepers you have up there are either no better or worse or would rather have an open goal ie Calamity.

Honestly I don't think any of them are good enough.

James has shown real progress this season, and he has bags of experience, as well as good goal presence with an ability to organise his defense quickly and efficiently. However I think England would be sending the wrong message if we recalled him after kicking him out in the first place, plus he's getting on a bit and probably only has one or two more seasons in him.

Robinson can make some impressive saves, but he still lacks the presence and the quality against long-range strikes. He can be forgiven for the mistake against Croatia.

Kirkland just lacks the quality to be England keeper. He's solid, and pulls off the occasional good save, but he is too inexperienced and could not hold up against the best strikers in the world if he played in Euro 2008.

Green is vastly overrated and his performances for West Ham this season have shown this. He lacks experience and poise and only just manages to deal with some of the simplest shots, he's fine where he is.

There is of course Ben Foster, who has put in a good performance for Watford this season, and after a few years at Man Utd could become good enough for England. But sometimes you get the impression that he gets stunned by the bright-lights of big games.

The problem is that the major clubs aren't doing enough to encourage English goalkeepers. If any one of Czech, Lehmann, Reina or Van Der Saar were English, we would have no problems.

Whist on the subject, I think its worth noting that by far the best keeper in the premiership is Jussi Jääskeläinen. I'm not a Bolton fan, far from it, but you have to admire the lad...

Doesn't look good does it?!

Calamity James has had his chance, however he is the more experienced and can be world class at the best of times. I'd have him as 2nd choice for couple of seasons perhaps.

Paul Robinson is the best English keeper at the moment and if he manages to perfect his game there should be no complaints from his nations followers.

Chris Kirkland has the best potential as England's 1st choice keeper but I'd have him as 3rd choice for a few seasons then 2nd when David James retires. Then it's upto Paul and Chris to prove their point.

Is it Robert Green? He'd be lucky for an England manager to call him up to the squad but he is talented between the sticks.

Scott Carson can play well at times but has no consistancy and nowhere near enough quality to be capped for England.

Who's Man Utd's keeper? Van Der Saar isn't English, is he?

I always say a that a player whether in cricket, rugby, football or whatever should be picked based on form not on age, favouritism etc so currently you have to choose David James.i also think Wigan's Mike Politt is a decent keeper

No, the shot became off the foot of the opposing team. He in simple terms fumbled the save. Had he made the save and then inadvertantly kicked or dropped the ball over the objective line it could be considered an very own objective.

Robinson's ditribution outwieghs any consideration for the others. He can string a ball out some 80 yds to the foot of his target, come on...can anyone else do that?
