i was looking at the BBC in spain and was told that thay donot pay a licence fee, we as a nation subsedise all of the world with our TV Licence. we shouls askee for a rebate as we are beeing sharfted yet again, i for one will be asking for a rebate also i will be withholding my licence fee untill this is sorted out, also why should i as many others, pay for the constant repeats from the BBC?,
I also i dont like sports so why was a good film be shelved for the ###### football? last night on /Wed 17/1/07, can some one please tell this goverment that enough is enough we are taxed to the hilt already, we pay 51% of our wages to this goverment , this is called tax plus ni stamps, ,we only if we are lucky only have 2% pay rise a year, these price rises that thay allow are beond the wage incresses that most of us get,hay this pay rise will not get me out of the hole i am now in as the Halifax has just put up my house payments. talk about being s### on from a hight

Funny. Greg Dyke used to ask this question, until he became in charge. That shut him up. The BBC is out of control when it comes to spending our money and the more they get the more they want. When they say that the licence fee isn't enough, they won't cut their jollies, their trips abroad, the subsidised studies in American Universities. No, they wll cut yet again the quality of the programmes and blame it on the Government. And the tragedy is, they will get away with it because people will believe them. This government might stand up to them so let's for once back the government.

God why do people moan and moan about the bbc so much recently. TV is cr#p all most channels across the world. The bbc is slighlty above average, hbo in america is ok, but really bbc is better than most national broadcasters. Bbc does great documentaries - r u telling me u didn't enjoy walking with dinosaurs or the blue planet? The also do good period dramas, ok thats about it but still.

Oh and lucky for you the government decided to be stingy and NOT give the bbc more money (they wanted loads more) by raising the licence fee. Instead the fee will not change by too much and just stay above the inflation rate. This should prompt the bbc to act even more like a commercial broadcaster, becoming even more competitive and thus hopefully continued or inproved standards of broadcasting. Or it could go down hill if so it would be the beginning of the end.

You could try reading the BBC's license fee page (below) which explains it all. As an extremely brief summary - it frees the BBC from having to bow to commercial pressures, and allows them to produce quality content that would be unprofitable if they were not license-fee supported. But there are many more reasons besides.

The BBC channels we receive are not broadcast outside of Britain, so you probably saw BBC World or News 24 international, both of which are commercial operations, and are not funded by the license fee.

You are also not taxed at 51%, regardless of how much (or little) you earn. I don't know which trash tabloid printed that little gem recently, but it's rubbish.

And as for interest rates, they're set by the Bank of England, who are independent from the government. This is universally accepted to be a very good thing by all political parties, for reasons too numerous to go into here (try reading some basic economics if you genuinely want to understand interest rates).

Why do you think you deserve a rebate when you're not directly involved in the production and airing of any television shows? You don't qualify for a rebate. If you pay 51% of your income you're being improperly taxed. I think you should research a new place to live where you can be happier with your income. You seem to be very unhappy and it's not simply the result of a tv license tax. Focus on things you can actually improve rather than get all huffy about something you have no control over.

First of all people pay out a fortune for Sky which is total trash,i know the TV licence fee is high but when you compare the amount of s*it and repeats on Sky to the BBC then i think they still good value for money,and as for new labour,i totally agree with you i think they should all be hung for treason against the British public but then again the majority of the public will fall for their lies and deceit and will vote that trash in again and then they will REALLY screw us.

You tell the government, start a petition or something. I know it's scandalous. In these days of Freeview and Digiboxes the BBC remains a non-subscription service meaning that if you buy a TV regardless of what you want to watch you pay licence despite the fact the BBC is pure crap these days, did you see the p*ss poor showings over Xmas?

The reason why we have to pay more money is because the BBC is moving to a digital age - the 21st century is about technology and it doesn't come freely.
Could you imagine some years back you wouldn't have being able to watch the BBC in Spain! However i understand your plight,please take heart and keep up with the inflation

Well I don't particularly like paying the licence fee either, but I definitely don't want to start to see adverts every 5 minutes like you do on Sky, drives you mad. BBC for all it faults produces some magnificent programmes and for that alone I will continue to willingly pay the fee

The BBC channel you were watching was proabably BBC World, which is paid for by adverstising and sponsorship or BBC Prime which is a subscription channel.

So you have not paid any money for either of them!
