Dont think I am aweful, the docter says I have to abort due to high-risk health problems I have, and also because of mental problems or death for the baby. What can females who have ahd this tell me about it? does it hurt a lot? how long is the recovery?

Ive had three opinions...i just recovered from cancer and there is no way this child can be born. My body is not strong enough and I could die, or if the child even makes it then it will die. I just went through so much recovery and would be so happy to be a mom but I trust in my docters and know what has to be done.

Recovery time is 3-4 days as long as there are no complications.

It isn't really physically painful, rather like having really intense menstrual cramps. Depending on how far along you are you may request to be put under for the procedure.

And for those of you pushing your anti choice stance at this person-you should be ashamed. This isn't your choice and you have no right to make this woman feel bad for having to make a very hard medical decision.

If you have an abortion, it takes less than a week to recover. My friends who have had abortions say the pain is not that bad and sometimes the nauseau is the worst part (but that's after the surgery is performed). You are given antibiotics to help fight off infection and will bleed for a few days. After 2 weeks, you are required to check in at the doctor's again so they can make sure there is no infection or irregular scarring. It is also recommended that you refrain from having sex during this time to decrease the risk of infection. While the bleeding lasts only a few days (it's like a heavy flow), in some cases, it can last a few weeks or be off and on for a month and result in clumps, which is your body's way of expelling the remaining uterine wall that was built up during your pregnancy. Abortion clinics also offer counselling if you feel like you need it and if you have any questions, the nurses and doctors are always there to help you.

It is actually easier than recovering from your period when you get it done soon. Physically anyhow. Emotionally you may not recover, take the time to mourn it like any other death. Most Doc.'s put you completely under, and the procedure takes just shy of 10 minutes provided it is done early in the pregnancy. Heavy bleeding the first day, lots of menstrual like cramps. But I was able to work the next day.

I'm sorry you have to go through this : (

I hate that you have to go through anything like this, but for medical reasons...I understand. Sometimes we have no choice.

I agree though, get a second opinion, (and third if needed), until your satisfied there's no other choice. You need to know what can happen to you if you carry this child full term, or what could happen to the baby. Research, find out everything. It could be this Dr. is just itching to use you as an excuse to use some new equipment.

Find a reliable Dr.. Ask around. Know the reputation of the Dr. you're going to. This is your life and the babies life here, make the right choice on good research, not on what one Dr. says. Your health is important and know what will happen either way.

And as with any abortion, there's always the risk of being totally sterile afterwards. Probably not as much as in the past, but it can happen. A friend of mine had an abortion with her first pregnancy, but terminated due she and her husband not having the money to raise a child. She told me "Never again". She felt horrible, physically, afterwards.

Also, find a support group, that will help.

you take 2 pills then 3 days later you take 3 more pills. After the second set of pills you bleed like your on your period for about 12-16 days. You may have cramping too. After you stop bleeding thats it. That is the recovery time. good luck

It does not hurt, its over quick, and afterwards you will bleed just like a heavy period, you may want to take it easy that night and get plenty of sleep, but the next day you should be able to return to everyday activities, just take it a little bit easier for a few days thats all. good luck

The recovery itself is not long at all.. After the procedure you will have cramping and bleeding almost like if you were having your period..

I had one a few years ago and for me the actual procedure did not hurt at all..

Good luck too!!

Have you thought of getting a second opinion about this from another doctor. I had 2 children and both were high risk pregnancies due to MY HEALTH. There are speacialists out there who can handle almost ANY preg out there. You doctor you saw might not be trained to handle a high risk one. Don't get me wrong I had my hard times during my preg. (preterm labor, some pain, constant doc apt., etc) But when you see your child for the first time its all worth it. PLEASE get another opinion and pray on this before you do it. It will be something you will have to live with for the rest of your life.

From what I understand, the recovery time shouldnt be too long. You should be able to go home soon after the procedure. Ask your doctor when it is safe for you to engage in certain activities.

10 months ago I had my third child, a boy. He died shortly after his birth due to trisomy 13. When I was 5 months along they told me to abort bc he's "incompatible with life". I did go to the clinic but hearing the suction vacuum,I knew my son deserved to be loved and have memories created for and with him and he did.
Theres lots of support. If you want good sites or support from me email me dtsiew@hotmail.com
