In a caring sharing relationship you have to be able to behave as yourself.
That goes both ways.
I am and stay my self.

With me, it was about 2 weeks into the relationship. He kept leaving the room, turning on the water and trying to hide it. I looked directly at him after one trip too many and said directly, "While I appreciate what you are doing, it isn't needed. Gas Happens. We are both adults and I'm quite old enough to neither get offended nor giggle should you need to fart." He looked at me a bit sheepishly and said, "OK", I smiled at him, gave him a big hug and cuddled up and went back to watching the movie.

well there is no set number of years that I know of ... I think that with some couples it is not an issue. Bodily functions are a fact of life. And the truth is the older you get the less modest you are.

I never hide anything in a relationship, but I do manage to keep assorted body-functions to myself...

Same as your relationships.
Just because we're gay doesn't mean we're all OK with farting on the first date, silly.
