I am a first year communication disorders grad student and I am going to be studying abroad next fall in England. I will be in a town called Walsal for a month. Im not familiar with the area and really want to know some great places to explore. I love museums, art, music....I love it all! I can't wait to go but I want to have some ideas of places to go so I can make the most out of my trip! If anyone knows of the town or anything of particular interest nearby that I should visit please let me know! (and guys - not Big Ben...its a given that Im gonna go to places like that! haha)

Trafalgar Square in London.Public speakers get up on the soapbox and rant, rave, and pontificate.Quite enlightening. Stonehenge for the mystical experience. Buckingham Palace.See if you can make the guards smile.

Wallsal is in what we Engish call the Midlands. If you have a car then explore the countryside and lakes etc. It's much more like 'real England' than London will ever be.

You'll be near England's "second city", Birmingham (take care, in English we do Not emphasis the "h", they don't like it). You'll find loads of Culture there. Stratford on Avon is fairly close and has a decent train service but the roads can be congested sometimes.

Get out to North Wales for a day. If you can make the time then visit the llechwedd slate mines near Festiniog (also got a great little steam train) and climb mount Snowdon (there's good views when it's not raining).

Try and find a preserved steam railway. There's one in Tysley near Birmingham. You can drift off into fantasies of days gone by when being pulled by an old steam engine.

Enjoy your stay and remember to always put the U in colour.

Come to Hull! We have the world's only submariam. (because we made up the name) it has sharks and fish and stuff. There's also some art galleries around.
