My experience with Bettas is that they will not move a lot when sick. An unwell betta may lie still a lot on the bottom of the bowl or at the surface. Their movements, although naturally graceful, can sometimes be jerky. So if he's still moving around it may be ok. Don't overfeed it, make sure you are feeding it BETTA food (like bloodworms)- not flakes for other kinds of fish. Despite what someone said about the fish being "lonely", they do better in small or medium bowls alone. Change it once a week. Good luck.

Betta generally last 2-4 years from when you buy them. (3-5 lifespan) Death from old age generally is proceeded by listlessness, and lying on the bottom all day. (Or more rarely floating at the top.) Of course these could also be a sign of other illness. Remember an older betta really need to be kept in clear water, and kept warm.

If it's flopping around in it's bowl it isn't long for this world. My daughters beta just died before Christmas and that's what he did, flopped around a lot....... Sorry, I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings.

When is the last time you changed the water? Should be changed once a week. Also the Betta should be getting fed once a day. Betta's usually last 3 to 5 years depending how well they are cared for.

he's probably purely slumbering, Betta fish % to sleep on the backside or in between rocks. possibly feed Sparky slightly greater, a solid rule of thumb is that if all of the food is long previous in under 5 minutes you're actually not feeding him sufficient. Take out any waste food that he did not consume as we communicate. solid luck!

If an Fish is dying you can tell by it not opening its mouth up to the water or not eating as much food as normal but if you look at them closley if they Always are by the side just looking out of the box or whatever you have them in It means they are in stress and need to be moved to a bigger inviroment or it means they are lonley and Want another fish with them but the biggen is if you look at them and they hide and stay there for a while they are near death... it happend to my fish!! Beware just warning you!!

flopping around? usually they turn dark and listless when they get old. you can try to get it to flare with a mirror a couple of times a day for exercise. put some melafix in its water and that might perk him up too.

the sign of unhappiness - not making bubbles or less bubbles than he used to make, not ready to fight, the color is fading, not moving a lot, and most easiest one to notice - not eating.
