Here in Detroit, the big 3 have already done the laying off of thousands of jobs, due to outsourcing...yeah, republicans! Can't blame dems for that, not that you were throwing stones, right?

Yes - today, but after you posted your question:

Maybe you meant individual income taxes, and people can certainly debate the merits of, and problems with, this law.
But it IS a tax increase, among other things. Their tax bills will go up, for better or worse. A debate over semantics gets us all nowhere.
PS I'll bet Democrats and Republicans will both be very interested to see this. Lots of good questions could be asked! :)

The very first thing the new congress and senate did was change the rule on tax hikes. They no longer need a 2/3rds majority to pass a tax hike bill. Now they only need a majority of votes to do it. Go figure....Democrats in...taxes go up.
But point of into for you. Any tax hike will have to be signed into law by the President. Unless a tax law is due to expire, then without an act to keep it in effect, the tax will go up. Letting a tax relief law expire IS a tax hike. So just because a tax increase isn't introduced, doesn't mean the tax won't go up.
And as far as I know, Republicans don't run the Big 3 in Detroit, so I don't know how you can blame the lay-offs on them. Blame the lay-offs on the fact the the big 3 are not being competitive in a free market. Also the fact the unions have been bleeding US companies dry is also a factor. The Japanese auto makers don't have to contend with unions, so they are able to keep more people employed. Perhaps if unions were more concerned about the economy as a whole instead of labor leaders getting rich, then the big 3 might not have to lay so many people off, while sending jobs to South America.
Oh, and one more thing about outsourcing................Bill Clinton signed the North American Free Trade Agreement....NAFTA!!! Last time I checked...he was a DEMOCRAT!!! So don't blmae it on Republicans. Republicans are trying to keep jobs here in the US by offering incentives to American companies. Dems are trying to impose all kinds of sanctions, fines, regulations, and tax hikes on American companies. So naturally, they will look for cheaper labor abroad.

The whole notion that Democrats are keen on taxing much and spending much, is nothing more than slander propounded by the Republican Party. The truth is this Republican administration had done more than the previous Democratic administration to expand the government’s infrastructure to an unnecessary and wasteful size.
Granted no great tax burden has been levied on the American public when the Republican’s controlled Congress. Of course this is no credit to this administration or the old Republican controlled Congress because all they were doing is running up such a debt with their frivolous Iraq occupation and their aimless “War on Terror” that Americans will eventually pay the bill much later down the road, when a Democrat is in office.
I once heard it put aptly that a Democrat taxes us on things we have, to pay for programs we need, while a Republican doesn’t tax us on anything to pay for programs that we don’t need, that we will eventually not be able to afford to pay far down the road.
The Republican Party is like a leeching “friend” that we all have that is all bubbly and personable and openly takes you out to lunch, only to leave “mysteriously” so that you would have to pick up the tab.

they probably will wait to raise taxes so they can get their party in the Whitehouse in '08. If they are able to maintain control on Congress in that election and a dem wins the Presidency...taxes going up is a guarantee.

Regardless of the answers you'll get from the neocons on this board, no they have not. It was predicted by the republican side that if democrats won the elections the FIRST thing they would do is to raise taxes. The American voter didn't believe one word of it and were right. What the democrats will try to do is to collect the taxes and the royalties owed by big oil that the republicans refused to collect.

In 2 weeks, they have only worked 30 hours. Wish I could make $168,000 per year working part time. Nevertheless, my point is that they have just started, they have 2 years. Your taxes will go up. And worse, so will mine.
