I've noticed brown patches on my face since my first pregnancy and a few more for this pregnancy. I know this has to be hormonal. They haven't faded, so after I have my son (in 5 weeks) I'm considering having them removed. What is the technique used by a dermatologist to perform this procedure and does anyone know a ball-park figure of how much this procedure costs? Thanks.

This used to be called a "Pregnancy Mask". It will fade over time, but is made worse by sun exposure. Use a good sunscreen. Try a blue peel if you want them all the way off. But it does take longer to fade than 5 weeks.

This is usually referred to as the 'mask of pregnancy' and usually fades after you give birth. I don't have brown spots but rather red spots all over the right side of my neck and with each pregnancy it gets worse but they usually fade some after giving birth. I asked a dermatologist and they said that they could be removed by laser removal but it's definitely pricey and since it's cosmetic most insurances will not cover it. HTH!

There is nothing wrong with being a little vain and being a mom at the same time!!! The kids may not notice but there is still a husband or a significant other to look good for ;-)

It is definitely hormonal but instead of surgery consider if you are going to have more kids or not; they may come again. Also, consider trying a cream that fades/lightens the spots on your skin. As with pregnancy, the spots may come at change of life or any time your hormones go crazy. This is so common!!
Just an idea.
Being a mom is not about glamour; your kids will never even notice.

Pregnancy makes skin pigmentation stronger. It would be a good idea to avoid tanning or even direct sun exposure on your face, since the sun makes it worse and it might make the spots permanent. Otherwise, some women have good results with fading creams AFTER the pregnancy.,

This is called melasma and is common in pregnant women, especially if you have darker skin. You should not have them removed b/c they will likely disappear after childbirth. If they don't, then see your dermatologist. They will just keep appearing if you have them removed during pregnancy, and the dermatologist will probably not do this anyway.

Before you consider surgery, you might also try taking a vitamin B complex or Brewer's yeast (nutritional yeast.) Some nutritionists believe that the brown spots are caused by vitamin B deficiencies.
